First step is gather up your Drivers Lic, SS card, copies of mail sent to you at your current address. Next start at social services for emergancy help. Your eligible for WIC and food stamps. Next you are eligbile for a host of Gov programs. Start with those. You;'ll find help with day care, job training,
Contact your local Salvation army. They will have all the numbers you need to get started. They will likely be able to give you some imediate help as well. They will also be able to refer you to other groups.
Call the bigger churches. You want help to tide you over while the Gov paperwork churns.
Once you are stabilized, have affordable and safe daycare you'll be able to go back to work or school. I'd suggest taking advantage and getting into college. Any job that cans you or that you cannot perform because of having a child is not a good one. Going to college will help you get a much better job. You are eligible for substantial assistance but you will have to be determined. Most of the time the Gov will let you just rot on the street if you don't insist on getting help in a firm but polite mannor and do you research. Find out what's availible that you are eligible for. Find out what the requirements are for documentation and satisfy those before going in. Don't even waste their time until you have those documents on hand.

If you are an Aussie, which I guess you are since you posted in the Aussie section...
Then you need to telephone Centrelink and make an appointment with your nearest office. There is little point in visiting them without an appointment as they wont really do a lot without an appointment. When you do go for your appointment you need to take as much evidence of your identity as you have and also your latest bank statement and your work details. If you do settle for a sole parent payment to support you and your baby you need to know that you will be required to look for work as soon as bub is old enouh to go to school.
If you need immediate financial help you can contact any of a number of charities including St Vincent De Paul, Salvation Army, and others that can offer you some food vouchers, and also take the opportunity to make an appointment with their budgeting consultant who can help you plan a budget that will work for you. It is a really helpful way to learn about managing money.
It is entriely possible to work throughout your pregnancy and soon after the birth too. So you may not need to be without work for terribly long at all.
You can seek some counselling help too to give you some emotional support throughout the pregnancy and after bub is born.
Best of luck wth it all.

Please, no more welfare mothers! If you cannot afford to take care of a child, keep your legs together or use a condom. I do not mean to sound unfeeling or harsh, but we all have to make our own way in the world. Noone owes anyone, anything. I am sorry you are having a difficult pregnancy, but we are all afflicted with hardships. We as a society, have no pride. We would rather ask for help from others when we make an irreversible mistake.

Don't you plan your pregnancy? Or was it a surprise? Don't you have any scheme in your work place for supporting you financially, in a situation of this nature. I heard through the press that many countries are offering sops to mothers to be, for encouraging more children to be born. Even other wise, any Government must have certain measures for the welfare of its citizen. Consult the public health authorities.
I am sorry, my advice is not specific to your problem, because of our difference in nationalities.

You're not the only one that has been in this situation..If you don't want the dad in the picture, go on Welfare and get Wic to help you out until you can get on your feet and go back to work..You can get a baby sitter or have a relative watch your child..

Ontario Works (Social Assistance) can help you. They can pay for your rent, bills, etc. and on top on that, the average amount for a single mother and child is $460.00 a month. They'll also help you get child support from the father, whether he wants to pay it or not!

First of all, for all of you bagging out 'dad' - she might not want him around! Although I think you should still try and get some sort of financial support from him if he's even aware of your position. If people offer support - accept it. Try centerlink, although make sure you take a good book to read.

get child support from father no matter what he says or go to a woman's shelter (not necessarily to live) but they have tons of resources for girls in your situation and they can definitely point you in the right direction which might be to state agencies- i would also get W.i.c. (women infants children) its great!! they give you free food items (milk cheese juice eggs) when you are prego and then they give you free formula and baby food for the baby - most mothers these days have been in your position and it is scary but you will get through it and become stonger because of it- our kids bring that out in us!!
