Ever since he was old enough to drink, he refuses to use his water dish. He loves drinking out of the toilet, a vase, the birdbath, the fishtank...anything as long as it's not his water dish. He also drinks out of glasses, but only if it is water. If it is anything else, he won't touch it. He sticks his paw in the glass of water, and then licks it off of his paws. It's very odd. I have another cat, and she uses her water dish just fine.

I just ran across this answer in a cat book I have. It states that fresh tap water is usually heavily treated with chemicals and is often chlorinated and it offends the cat's sensitive sense of smell. It says they prefer the aquarium water and water that has been sitting out cause that odor has diminished. My cat Leo does the paw thing. He cracks me up whenever I see him.

I have one of those. She prefers fresh water. Whenever anyone is at a sink, she comes running out from wherever she is and hops up for a drink. She also does the paw thing, and drinks out of a glass if you turn your back and leave a glass of milk. I have seen her drink out of a dish. Maybe you can try saucers, low bowls, different plates, you might hit on something he will accept.

i've got had this situation too do no longer situation. Cats are choosy creatures with the aid of nature even whilst it is composed of ingesting water. lots of the time it definitely relies upon on the form of dish which you utilize and the water which you put in it. if your cat has a plastic water dish i could advise you to do away with it and get a steel one. A cats experience of flavor is plenty extra defined than a people, and a plastic dish sometimes provides the water a humorous flavor. this is like ingesting water out of a water bottle that has been sitting out of the refrigerator for a days..it has that weird and wonderful plastic flavor. A steel dish avoids that situation and retains the water tasting crisp. yet another element you need to do is clear out the water. in case you a brita water clear out gadget or some thing of that nature, then you quite ought to offer your cat filtered water. If no longer purely in basic terms boil some faucet water, place it in a jug and stick it in the refrigerator over evening and supply that on your kitty. Filtering the water removes any impurties and unusual tastes that a cat will %. up on. it may be purely somewhat of artwork yet I assure this is going to artwork. in the advise time close your bathing room doorways so as that your cat won't be in a position of get into the tub. Its no longer sturdy to enable them to drink that water with the aid of fact you oftentimes sparkling the tub with stable cleansing products and its crammed with micro organism that is risky on your cat. attempt the steel dish and the filtered water and it may artwork. I gurantee it.

usually, if cats dont drink from the water bowl it might mean there might be something bothering it. Maybe the room, the air, the water or even the smell. But usually, they just dont drink since the water tastes funny or if there's something wrong with the bowl. Or maybe the cat has different tastes. try coaxing him to drink in a slightly diffrent bowl. That worked for me!

The dish might have a funny taste to it or something. If they don't like the taste of the water set out for them, they'll drink out of toilets, etc, even though they'll do this anyways. Try a different bowl and see if that helps.

My kitty wouldn't drink out of her plastic bowl. She would end up turning it over all the time and spilling water everywhere... I eventually did some research and found out she would like to a ceramic dish... I have seen an overturned bowl in my house since i bought it! It's worth a shot

If he doesn't like his dish, buy him something else to drink from. My cat drinks out of a coffee mug and he loves it. Buy him his own vase or glass and just replace his dish with it.

My cats will drink out of the dog's water bowl, flower vases, the toilet, puddles outside, from cups, even the shower. This is normal cat behavior. I think they like to "hunt" for thier water. I don't think they like it just being there. Its too easy for them.
