It's the official policy of the US Postal Service not to use the likeness of any living person on a US postage stamp, however, you can purchase custom-made stamps from third-party vendors with your picture.

It's all about paying homage to the dead people. If you want to do so for a living person you throw a party/banquet/parade. Putting them on a stamp while they are still living is like "oh... ok.... now what?"
