It depends on how they become legal. You have to understand that the people crossing the border illegally are not the educated or desireable people. They are most likely uneducated criminals. Just the fact that they are crossing make them criminals! Most aliens that can actually add something to our great country come here legally!

I would like to give them a chance though. We should give them the opportunity to stay, but they have to earn it.

I would like to see a CONDITIONAL amnesty given to all the illegals here now. (Assuming we are stopping more from coming in). The conditions ...

They must learn basic English.
They must learn some American history and culture.
They must be financially dependent, i.e., either employed or have a financial sponsor.
They must swear their allegiance to America and be signed up for the draft. (Within the draft eligibility guidelines)
They will have a FELONY conviction on their records so they can never posses a gun or vote, even if they become citizens.

They must do this within a time frame, such as 1 year. If they don't, or at least show effort after the time frame, they will be deported.

This will only work if we protect our borders. If we keep allowing them in, it's just a waste of time!

Considering how people feel about all the problems that have been brought about because of illegal immigration - the cost to American citizens - the heavy tax burden that the US citizen carries because of illegals - I don't see many if any not having a problem with any sort of amnesty such as some have suggested and haven't passed within congress.

Put it this way - would you be happy if you had over 70% illegals within your school system and they were raising your taxes to cover that expense - then add on the welfare, medicaid, and assorted other benefits that are for citizens of your country were being filtered to those that break the law by entry into your country illegally? That these same law breakers then had the nerve to protest and insult your home country and the citizens of that country because they want the laws to be enforced? Every day those same people that are breaking the laws that others within this country obey by coming here legally and not to milk the government to pay their way thru life? All the while popping out babies with the thought that by doing so they won't be deported?

People will have a problem with anything that looks close to amnesty.

No, not really. Do you think we should still forgive them of identity theft? This is included in the senate bill before the house. Shouldn't US citizens be forgiven of their back taxes since we will now give it to people here illegally? There are many problems with this new bill. How will the Us economy absorb the low estimate of 50 million immigrants from now to 2014? Some put this number at 100 million. We will have to lower US wages and the legal citizens will suffer. Also, the wages in Mexico are going down there as well. Farm workers are being paid roughly half of what they were paid 5 years ago. Illegal aliens from South America are working these jobs and the conditions are terrible. They live like slaves on plantations. They really do live on the farm in shacks and are lucky if the land owner provides meals. Is Illegal immigration helping the people of Mexico? Yes the lucky ones that illegally came here, but the law abiding citizens of Mexico are suffering because of it. It's hard to say what we should do.

I have no problem with LEGAL immigrants. However, I think it a bit unfair that people who came to this country illegally should be legalized before the people who followed the rules and tried to immigrate legally. There are people all over the world waiting for legal immigration visas. Why should those people who broke the law and immigrated illegally get their visas before those who respected the law.

You are probably too young to remember, but when I was a teenager, amnesty was granted to illegal immigrants and they were given legal status. I think to do so again would just send a message that if you just say "f*ck all those people who are following the law, just sneak in or overstay your tourist or student visa and eventually you will be given legal status and those poor suckers will still be playing by the rules and will get screwed again." All those illegal immigrants who claim that they are just trying to help out their families obviously have no respect for the hundreds of thousands of other poor people who want to help out their families but are too honest and good to break the laws of the country they want to live in. Maybe they want to help out their families AND set a fine example for them at the same time, but the people who don't have any respect for legality screw them every time.

I'm sorry, I have to respect the law abiding immigrants and their families' needs before the law breaking immigrants who cry foul when they get caught and don't give a damn about those left behind.

They came here illegally. How is "legalizing" them the "cure all"? That would be like arresting someone for stealing a car, then forgiving them by giving them the car. It makes no sense. We would be rewarding illegal behavior.

What needs to happen is the people here illegally need to go back to their countries of origin and file the proper paperwork. The reason that there are economic mandates on coming to the US legally is we don't want to have to feed other nations' poor. They need money to come here so they can get housing, a job, an education, and not have to use government programs they don't pay for to live. It's that simple. The cry about the "poor" is nonsense. I understand how the "grass looks greener" over here, but if you're poor in your country, you're going to be poor here as well. Adding nothing to nothing still gets you nothing. No matter what country you're in.

If they were legalized, then they wouldn't be illegal immigrants, they'd be following the law instead of breaking it. If they want to be here, they should go through legal channels AND they should learn to SPEAK ENGLISH!!!!

I will, yes. Also, I have an issue with you not obtaining your GED yet. Get educated. And then you can post the question correctly. It would be "legalized" not "legalize"
dammit.

no, i think that they are human too, and have the right to search for their happiness. if they think that their happiness and fulfillment lies in a other than their own and are honest, working people, i don't have any problem with that. my concern regards immigrants who just come to escape the law in their own country
