Is the dog still alive? Is the dog dead? Did you bring it to the vet? Did you have to put it to sleep? You sound very unsympathetic!!!
However, My advise would be to tell your sister what happened. She's going to be upset if you tell her it ran away. She'll wonder if it got hit, if it's okay, does someone have it, is it at the pound. Don't put her through that. It's almost worse. When something like this happens it's not anyones fault. That's why they're called accidents. Tell her what happened so she knows and can eventually except what has happened. Try to be a little more sympathetic. She's going to be hurt and upset. That's normal but let her know that you're very sorry for this unfortunate accident and that you feel horrible. Good luck.

Don't tell her that the dog ran away. She'll be posting pictures of the dog all over town for months, and will probably make you help her.
Be direct and honest. Don't lie to her. She's your sister.

I would definately tell her. Don't lie and say it ran away. Then she'll always wonder where the dog is, did it find another home? Or, did it get eaten by a wild animal? It will be upsetting for her but you do need to let her know what happened.

That's really awful to hear.
Do tell her, like the others said.
I'd like to hear the truth if it were my dog, and I'm sure you would too.
However, her age does matter with this.
If she's very young, it might be best to tell her it ran away.
Hearing something like that for a very young person would be crushing.
Also, if you are telling her, wait until she gets back, so she can enjoy her trip (also said).
I hope you guys cope well, and good luck!

the best thing to do is to tell her that her dog was ran over..... question is did you accept the responsibility of looking after her dog when she's gone.. if it's yes, then you also have to explain to her how her dog was ran over, how it got away from your protection...

Why are you even asking this question? Any normal person would have to tell your relative that you were irresponsbile and allowed her dog to get hit by a car. Step up to the plate and take it. Take responsibilty

don't tell her that the dog ran-away because that would just prolong the pain. After your sister gets home, tell her quickly, like, I have bad news the dog was hit by a car and it has passed away.I am so sorry.

I'd wait so she can have a wonderful time while she's gone and then gently tell her when she gets back. Did you bury him? Put a nice wreath on it so she can say her goodbyes. And, apologize humbly a million times. Cry with her.

The truth, even though it is going to hurt her it is absolutely best to tell her the truth. Accidents happen, remember it is not your fault it was an accident.
