I have been having this pain off and on for a few years now, not really sure when it began. It's under my ear and slightly to the front, but most of the time, it is under my ear. I have never spoken to a doctor regarding it because it comes and goes, but lately it's been happening a lot, and it is one of the worst pains I have ever felt. It's absolutely excruciating - that's the only word I can think of. It's not a pain in my actual ear or in my teeth, as some of you might suggest; it's almost as if it is in a gland in my neck under my ear or maybe something like that? I am seeing a doctor in August at some point, but I'm trying to get an idea of what might be wrong. It's just so painful to experience..if you yawn, eat, drink, cry, whatever, it hurts so bad you want to scream. And then it will go away! Now it's just happening more often and I want it to stop!

partial list of possible causes: Inflammation of the tempo-mandibular joint (called TMJ), or an infection or fungus in the eustachion tube, or an ear canal infection or an infected molar requiring a root canal procedure, or lymphatic node inflammation.

See your doctor about this rather than guessing and taking over the counter stuff -- if it were simple you'd have solved it by now.

This is oviously water in ears. Every time I go swimmimng the same thing happens and it hurts alot. I'ts like a crackling in your ear and goes in about 30 mins. To clear it you need to get the water out. Here are step by step instructions on how to do this; 1. Get cotton buds (You can get them from a pharmacy) and ask your child which ear the pain is in. 2. Tell your son to turn his head to the side so the hurting ear is facing the ground. 3. Use the bud to gently clean the ear to get rid of any wax so the water can freely come out 4. Use your little finger to circle the inside of his ear (not too far or that can hurt his ear) 5. If it doesn't go in 5 mins, go in further until about a teaspoon of warm water comes out of his ear 6. Clean the ear out of his ear with another cotton bud (This stops the water going back in or turning into ear wax) Hope I Helped!.

when my allergies are acting up I experience something like you described. my ear hurts so bad I can't even tough it and if someone is standing nest to me talking I just want to die. what I have learned is its the estation tube that Drains from the ear to the throat. when it is occluded or closed off the pressure behind the inner ear drum builds up.I can feel it when it opens up. I pack my ear with cotton very tightly to off set the pressure I guess the equal amount of pressure works .find a allergy dr. to help with this i take decongestants and they help also heat will help

Does it come and go, or does it only occur when you move your mouth? If it only occurs when you move your mouth, open it, close it, yawn, and things like that, it sounds like it could be TMJ.

You should not jump to conclusions though until you see your doctor because you do not want to get the idea in your head that it is one thing and then find out that it is something else.

It could be serious. See your doctor asap.

Mine reminds me of mumps. However, I had mumps years ago as a child. 75 years old now. Pain is not bad, just sensitive when I touch it. Just below my ears at the end of jaw. I guess just another thing that hurts when you get this old. Will check with doc next time I see her.

I grind my teeth and seems I felt the pain begin in my sleep. It's been four days now and the pain is still the same. The inside of my cheek hurt the first morning, which is from my grinding.I think I pulled a muscle grinding so hard.I have a new mouth guard to protect the teeth in my sleep from grinding.I must of removed it earlier for the inside of the cheek to been bit.
