One detail, though, that I would like to add: if you are thanking someone for somehting that is concluded (e.g., thanking your taxi driver), you'll want to use the past tense (!), which is arigatou gozaimashita.

Both are correct, though the second form is MORE formal and both forms are usually used by women. Men just use the short "domo" and leave it at that.
