Hi! :o)
First of all, it's great that you want to change... that's the first step. Next, you have to figure out what exactly it is you want in life. That will help you set goals for yourself.
I used to smoke, drink, and do all kinds of stupid things. It took some time, but I changed. And it is NOT easy. It takes a lot of commitment to God, and respect for yourself.
Try reading some inspirational books. Remember we have all been there before. No one is perfect!

You don't want to be religious! the pharisees were religious and they still crucified Jesus because of there lack of belief and understanding. You want to be a follower of Christ Jesus. Paul a disciple of christ struggled with the same thing, he said ( this is not vebatum) the things that I don't want to do I do, and the things I want to do I don't do. No one said that this walk would be easy, but unlike unbelievers we have a source we have someone that "sticks closer than a brother". The Bible says " Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind". So the best way to be a good follower of Christ is to read the Bible daily, whether its for 5minutes or five hours. The only way your going to know the truth and what is required of us as a child of the most High God is to read his word and trust what it says. Days will turn to weeks and weeks into months and months into years. You will look back on this question and laugh because your walk with Christ will be different and you will be much stronger in the Lord. God knows your heart and He knows that your trying, but you have to help him out alittle by renewing you mind with the word of God!!!! We've been tricked for a long time, since birth so you have to understand there is alot of undoing, the way you think, talk and act. It will all come under submission just trust and believe. God wants us to be happy so having a girlfriend isn't a problem. Just trust believe and renew your mind. Oh yea and prayer is a good thing! Don't know what to say ? Then pray in the Spirit. If you don't have a church that you go to, find a good one go to bible study and ask your pastor questions that's their jobs they are servants of Christ just like the rest of us. God Bless

The only proven way to make a change for the better is to find a good faith community (a church) and get completely involved in all the stuff that goes on there.
Particicipating fully in the work, worship, and sacraments of God's true church works just about every time, although the process may take a lifetime to complete.

There is nothing wrong with having a girlfriend. Alittle drinking is not a sin as God says all things in moderation. This does not refer to illegal drugs because we are also to obey the laws of the land. I f you truly want to change your life start with prayer, seek advice from alocal mister or pastor. We are all human and ,make mistakes but we try and keep doing better all the time. Start your day off with aprayer asking God to Guide you . Do not forget to accept Jesus for through Hin our sins are forgive. Best of luck to you, beter than that I will pray for you.

Christianity was never meant to be religious. A religion is mankind's attempt to find a way back to God. Christianity, on the other hand, is God's reaching down to mankind to make a way back to Himself.
Being a Christian means you have a relationship with the God who created you. You live according to His rules through His power, not on your own.
Open Arms Internet Ministry is a free biblical counseling ministry online who can answer just such questions for you.

Dear Friend,
Anybody could be religious Christian and be far away from Jesus Christ. What does the Bible reiterate is that one should come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ by having a REPENTANT heart of the sinful way of life one had and ACCEPTING Jesus Christ as his personal savior by way of proclaiming his belief in him as per Romans 10:9. This will include asking for forgiveness to Jesus Christ (who is the only one in the word to forgive sins, as he was the only one sinless) for your sins. Once you do this out of sincere and broken or contrite heart, the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ will come in your life. You can really feel the peace God has given in your life. Further read Bible and live with Jesus Christ as per the Word of God. You will feel dejected to the sinful ways of life. God will protect you from all harm.

God does not expect perfection from us he realizes we are made of dust and will on a daily basic sin.
Many people are "religious" but don't live their life in a way to please God. What motives us to live our life in a way God would approve is a heartfelt desire to please him. This comes as we learn more about him and who he is, we can do that through a diligent study of his world the Bible and prayers to him to ask for his help. Pray he sends someone to help you understand his requirements and live by his standards. He does answer the prayers of those seeking to know him and his truths.

God doesn't want you to be religious, he wants a relationship with you. He maintains this relationship through the gift of the Holy Spirit who you received when you were saved.
Go to the back of your bible, and look up Holy Spirit. Read those verses. Especially the ones in Galtians and Ephesians. We are in a tug of war with flesh vs. spirit. The Holy Spirit is active voice and if you listen to his instruction and cooperate with his direction you will begin to "walk in step with the Spirit"
The Holy Spirit guides us primarially through God's word, and prayer. With that in place daily, clear solutions to your problems will calmly present themselves. List out what are the biggest barriers to you submitting your will to God's will, then pray about them one by one. The look in the bible and see what God says about them. The do what the bible says for that day. Don't worry about your whole life, just each day.
At first this walk is awkward. As you sense his direction, your steps with God will be more smooth. Just like when you start jogging with someone you never have jogged with before, at first its hard to stay in step, but over time you don't even notice what the other person is doing because you know their cadance so well. Ultimately this process of cooperating with spiritual guidance and resisting fleshly impulses that are opposite of God's will, you will be more and more "transformed" in the likeness of God. Look up transformed in the bible, and you'll see the verse I'm talking about.
You are engaged in a relationship with God. He wants to interact with you daily. Even though you may have been reconciled to God through Christ previously, he isn't finished with you. As you adjust your life to cooperate with the Holy Spirit's direction, every part of you will be made over, so that you will reveal God's work in your life.

The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
There is no law against smoking, against drinking, or against having a girlfriend.
