There are no viruses for OS X

it is a single-kernal operating system based on open BSD, so ANY program MUST get admin permission to run.

It also comes with a built-in firewall that is on by default, so it is bulletproof.

so no, no anti-virus needed. In fact, the Norton stuff messed up a lot of macs, so forget it.

Mac os x does not come with any anti-virus software installed. In fact it does not need it at all. But as mac and pcs can be networked. A file that is 'ok' for mac os x may be a virus for networked windows pc.
If u receive an email containing a virus file and u forward that mail to one of your friend who has windows, that may be hazardous to his pc. So it is better to have a virus scanner that scans your incoming/outgoing mails for (windows) viruses.
one of free anti virus software is : ClamXav : http://www.markallan.co.uk/clamXav/
