If you wish to do professional work with archival results then an Epson 2200 will do whatever needs be done within that size. HP does nice office copies.

12 x 18? That's a very irregular size. Most professional photographers don't print anything at that size unless it's a custom job.
Some popular printers in the industry is the Epson Gemini system, the Kodak ML-500 (the two most popular) followed by the Epson 9600 (which is a wide-format printer).
