As mentioned before cervical cancer is the cancer of a cervix, but it really depends at what stage it was diagnosed.

My mother in law passed away last year she had cervical cancer which in her case spread to other parts of the body fairly quickly.

I would advise your friend to take it a little seriously, cancer of any form is dangerous if not treated at an early stage.

Cervical Cancer can be quite deadly. Most forms (90% or so) of the disease are caused by HPV, the human papillomavirus. This STD infects about 80% of the sexually active population. If cervical cancer is treated early and regularly, it is usually not life threatning. However, if left untreated, it can become malignant and spread to other parts of the body. Its most common first target are the vagina, uterus and bladder....three parts of your friend's body I'm sure she might have a future use for. She should take this very seriously. Regular pap smears and ready treatment can keep it under control...ignoring it can cost her some of her favorite bits...if not her life.

The source links below have a much more detailed description of the effects of HPV, and treatement of Cervical Cancer. Let her take a look at them to start.

Cervical cancer is a malignancy of the cervix. Worldwide, it is the second most common cancer of women. It may present with vaginal bleeding but symptoms may be absent until the cancer is in advanced stages, which has made cervical cancer the focus of intense screening efforts utilizing the Pap smear. Most scientific studies have found that human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is responsible for >90% of the cases of cervical cancer. There are 7 most common types of HPV - 16, 18, 31, 33, 42, 52 and 58.[1] Types 16 and 18 being the most common cause of the cancer. Treatment is with surgery (including local exicision) in early stages and chemotherapy and radiotherapy in advanced stages of the disease

Cervical cancer is caused by a sexually transmitted diseases. HPV or human papillloma (sure I spelled that wrong) virus, it's genital warts.

It is dangerous because cancer spreads. It won't kill you when it is on your cervix, but when it moves into your blood, brain, lymph nodes. Then you die.

If you can post an add on with your friends age. I'm facing something similar and I am 27, so I wonder about how old others are.

[edit]

The cancer isn't contagious. The HPV is contagious always, I think even if she has the cancer cells removed from her cervix, the virus stays with her. It doesn't harm men, they just carry it and harm women with it. They get genital warts, but they can have them removed and still spread the virus.

So if she isn't married, has unprotected sex with a guy then he has unprotected sex with someone else, your friend may give another woman cervical cancer.

*********Still waiting to find out how old your friend is ***********

cervical cancer can be deadly, but it's very common for women to have cervical cancer and have it treated. it's usually caused by the HPV virus...I know quite a few women and acquaintances who have been treated for cervical cancer. especially in young women, there is no need to be alarmed. if you friend knows she has it, she has obviously been given medical attention and i'm sure her doctor has it under control.

Cervical cancer is cancer of the cervex.

While it CAN cause death, it is also one of the least deadly, and most treatable cancers.

If your friend has caught her cancer early, and is receaving treatment there is a very good chance that she will make a full recovery.

Cervical cancer is cancer of the cervix, a part of a woman's uterus. Regardless of what kind of cancer it is, it's dangerous and life threatening. You need to convince your friend to get treated for this because her life is in danger.

I have a hard time believing that your friend was diagnosed with cervical cancer and was not told how serious the condition is. She is either lying or misunderstood her doctor.
