There are several methods you can try to get rid of them:
1. hold your breath
2. drink a glass of water quickly
3. pull hard on your tongue
4. a spoon full of sugar placed on the back of your tongue and taken all at once (can be repeated)
5. having someone scare you
6. sniff smelling salts

Steps:
1. Hold your breath for 30 seconds and then release it.
2. Breathe into a paper bag five times in a row.
3. Sip 10 consecutive gulps slowly from a glass of water without stopping to take a breath.
4. Immerse your face in ice-cold water for 30 seconds.
5. Swallow a teaspoon of dry white granulated sugar.
6. If you began hiccuping after taking a medication, seek medical help. Also see a doctor if the hiccups don't stop after 24 hours (3 hours for young children) of if they are extremely painful.

Sometimes people get hiccups because they have eaten to much, drank to much bubbly drinks, swallowed to much air and sometimes no reason at all. GETTING RID of hiccups sometimes is very tricky and frustrating. The hold idea is to disrupt the hiccup cycle in order to get it to stop. Sneezing, Farting, hold breathe, pulling your tongue, someone suddenly scares you or a sudden fright, eating sugar and drinking water right away when you have hiccups. Sometimes unfortunately we just have to wait until it stops. Good Luck!

Hold your breath if you feel a hiccup coming on. Do other things to get your mind off of them.

Take a bite of something, a cracker, and a drink. Hiccups are just stomach spasms, don't hold your breath, that is a myth. If it worked for some, it was a coincidence.

Put water in your mouth, bend over so your upper body is horizontal, stretch your head up and gulp the water. Repeat until hiccups are gone.

Hold your breath. If you are a baby tear off a small piece of a brown paper bag and stick it on the baby forhead. Don't stick bag over baby head. Just tear off a small piece like in a shape of a quarter. Sounds wierd? It works. Really!

Get a glass of water, not ice cold, but not hot either, more like a room temp water. Take a deep breath and then take 5 sips of water without breathing inbetween them. So its like deep breath sip sip sip sip sip exhale. That always works for me and those that I tell.
