I had viral meningitis 3 years ago. I feel for your mom. Meningitis should not affect the stomach as far as I know. It is swelling in the meningis around the brain. She really needs to go see a specialist if she is in that much pain. Sending prayers to your mom.

She should go to a doctor that specializes in stomach problems like an Internal Medicine doctor. It is possible that the doctor she saw for the Viral Meningitis is an expert at that, but may not be an expert on stomach stuff. There are so many things that can cause stomach pain - that it is impossible to list every possibility here. Examples are gall bladder problems to ulcers. Just encourage her to get the help she needs - be persistent. Unexplained pain is her body's way of saying something is not right.

Get a second opinion as her doctor is not God and someone else may actually know more about what is giving her pain. The cause may not have anything to do with her Meningitis. That said, it appears that stomach pain is more associated with meningitis when you still have it. Get a second opinion. There are also specialists that just deal with treating the pain of various illnesses. Open your mind and remember that more opitions and more knowledge is better than just one doctor's opinion. (Trust what i say as I know doctors, and there are some that are better than others at various skills)

Where in the belly is her pain? It could be many things depending on where the pain is located. Did they check her for ovarian disorders, appendicitis, gallbladder, colitis, chrons disease, etc? Chrons can be very painful sometimes, and it often goes undiagnosed for a good while before someone catches on to it. A pain clinic might not be a bad idea, although I'm not entirely sure what they could do for that. But the one thing that I can tell u to do is keep after the doctors. Don't worry about "bothering" them, thats why they went to med. school. Its their responsibilty to figure out what is going on.

She is probably having a relapse.
What is the treatment for viral meningitis?

No specific treatment is available for viral meningitis. Antibiotics do not work against viruses.

Take her to a pain clinic. No one has to endure pain like that, ever. Just don't put up with it from the doctors. Take her to a pain clinic.
