I have 1 female spayed cat, and 1 male nuetered cat. They are brother and sister and have been living in the same house since birth. They were fixed at 6mos of age, and are now a little over 2 years old. Tonight, the male mounted the female and attempted to mate. The female didn't resist...I am confused...why would he have the urge to mate if he is fixed. Also, she is fixed, so she isn't in heat...do males still just have the urge, and if so, why all of a sudden 2 years later. Also, if this happened tonight, will it start to be a reoccuring thing? It was right in the middle of the livingroom! I'm worried that he's going to keep doing it to her...

It is a dominance thing, use a squirt gun to stop the behaviour.

My parents have two boy kitties, and one of them always tries to mount the other. He was nuetered when he was 6 months so there should be no reason, we just have gay cats I guess. I've seen his little dingaling during these sessions.

Our kitties do similar things, but not to the extent that my parents cats do. We just got a kitty named Lola who was spayed at the animal shelter at 8 weeks. The boy cats in our house look like they are trying to mate with her but they don't exactly know what to do, it's quite funny.

My grandmother picked up a stray girl kitty. She seemed to be in heat and we had all the neighbor cats at our door. We took her to the vet to get spayed and discovered she was already spayed.

There are many reasons why kitties do what they do. Sometimes they were not spayed or nuetered early enough and developed enough to figure out what to do. Sometimes they discover that it is fun. As long as your girly kitty doesn't mind it, it's harmless. They don't generally know what they are doing anyways.

After neutering the animals can no longer produce sexual hormones so don't 'get the urge', the action you saw was a dominance move. Even if they weren't neutered it is extremely rare for sibling cats to try and mate each other. Once they sort out their relative positions in the heirarchy the behaviour should stop.

Yes, I have two cats. My male cat is fixed the female is not. Whether my female cat is in heat my male cat still goes after her. I dont even bother with it though. I figured its not like anything is going to happen. Might as well let them have a good time...haha

The male ought to nevertheless attempt to mate which includes your spayed lady. you should really have all cats spayed or neutered. it is extra humane. A male cats temperment is likewise a lot extra ideal in case you neuter him.

it has nothing to to with sex. when cat or dog mount or hump another animal it is to show dominance over the other animal. Its the pecking order in the pack. who eats first ,breeds the females and so on.

animals don't lost their hormones.. Just cause they can't reproduce anymore doesn't mean they don't get the urge every now and again! I wouldn't sweat it. But if it gets to a point where it gets worse, see Vetrinary help
