(And I ain't sayin' that a liberal can't be a Christian.)

I mean, these two groups are near the top, if not at the top, of the list for being responsible for everything that is going wrong with our country (the U.S.).

What's the deal?

Um - I didn't say "the world," so you might want to reread the question. "% of the U.S.", not "world"

Bobbie Joe: I am not comparing the groups, I am asking how "liberals" and "atheists" are alleged to have such power to cause so much havoc in the U.S. as some people allege they are.

Does anybody actually read these questions before answering? If so, why do I get questions that are already answered in my question?

2006-07-26 18:32:06 · update #3

memyselfandi: point well made! But might I say that I didn't say that they were. I said that they were near or at the top of the list. And no, I didn't make the list.

Bottom line: that's my point

Question: how can someone claim that without citing specific examples?

Answer: it is done every single day.

Result: what the heck does the term "liberal" mean anymore? Most can't tell ya. But many certainly understand the implication; at least I do, as many times as I have been called one lol

devlsadvoct: yes, sarcasm intended. I have been labeled a "liberal" and wear that title proudly.

Population survey's indicate 70 to 80% of U.S. citizens claim to be Christian. But no one really knows what is a Christian. There are enough different denominations that come under Christian label, yet each of which is like a religion in itself. Perhaps that is why your perception that liberals and atheists have the power. Christians are too fragmented.

Your question does seem slightly ambiguous. Are you saying that Christians blame liberals and atheists for what is wrong? We happen to have a Republican president who claims to be Christian and has attacked liberals, a usual anti-Democrat position. Yet I don't know many Christians who still back him, as he has shown himself oblivious to the plight of middle class America.

We may not know who does have the power, regardless of appearances. This day, it seems more people blame oil companies for everything wrong, as opposed to a particular belief group.

According to wikipedia about 80% of US citizens are Christian. I stuck the link below for you. Check out the second chart especially.

As far as why liberals and atheists having power goes....they don't have any more power than any other group of people in my opinion. However, some groups are more proactive while the majority, the Christians, seem to be more passive. A variety of groups have been challenging long-standing laws about church/state issues such as having 'under God' in the Pledge of Allegiance or "In God We Trust" on our money. As a liberal Christian myself (yes we do exist) I'm fed up. The majority needs to speak up!

According to the US census bearu, 8 of 10 are white, Christian.

There is a difference between Christianity and political activism. Jesus was never affiliated with any party, nor was he politically active (Famous render unto Caesar that things that are Caesar and to God the things that are God).

The political spectrum has one end convective and the other end liberal. Most people are in between. Today the Conservatives in favor, tomorrow the liberals.

Atheist (people without God) may be politically active or not. The belief is that there is no God, no religion. If you do a word study belief, believe, believer, and non belief, you will learn how Jesus deal with this issue.

No. Unfortunately most people don't actually read the whole question before spouting their opinions.
But I would disagree with you about liberals and atheists being responsible for what's wrong with our country. I'd say we all are responsible. If everyone was willing to walk the walk and not judge and blame others so hastily this would be a much better place to live.

99% of the U.S. claims to be religious with only .5% Athiest and .5% angnostic.

Of course, Wicca and Sceintilogy is also included in this 99% figure.

http://www.adherents.com/rel_USA.html#religions

Almost 77% are Christians.

Most are Protestant.

Protestants make their own minds up about the Bible and God's word.

Liberal Protestants and neo-protestants (such as the Angelican Church) make Gay's ministers and Bishops, women ministers and Bishops.

Most religious people tend to limit their practise to going to Church on Sunday.

Liberals don't want to force view their views on others through political channels.

The U.S. Consitution forbides respecting any one religion.

Conservative elements have managed to put "God" into the Dollar Bill and the Pledge of Allegience (originally it was NOT included).

While the largest purality is Protestant vastly over Catholic, the largest secular is Catholic.

The next largest is Baptist, which may or may not be Christian. Baptists are the second oldest formal single god Relgion, right after Jewish.

Jesus was Baptised by John before Jesus began preaching.

Then comes MEthodist

Then comes Luthernan

Then comes Presbysterian

In playing "Politics" in Government, the Methodists, Lutherans and Presbyterians have to join forces to keep the Catholics from prevailing!

The Lutherans and PResbyterians are more liberal and they keep an open mind on things.

Secular lines usually can keep Catholics and Methodists apart, even on issues they agree upon such as Abortion.

A vast majority of the relgious are liberals, people who want to smoke, drink, have freeer sex, gamble a little, watch dirty movies and get their 13 year old daughter "fixed up" after the good christian boy does her in. Liberas drew the line at polygamy. Even Liberals have a conservative streak!

The ultra conservatives are the ones who want to ban things, put God and creationsim into schools.

The big issues on EVERYONE'S MIND is WHOSE GOD?

Who's going to write the prayers?

The Cathlics have a pluraity, so do they get to do it?

Whose prary are we going to use and do we shove it down the throats of Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists, Jews, Mulsim, Shiks, Bahais, Hindus?

Politics is very non-religious in America. Anyone tries to think differently and you might see a Supreme Court 100% agree to strike down a prayer law, even though some of them are relgious.

You take an other to serve.

Christianity says Give Unto Ceaser What Is Ceasers, Give Unto God, What Is Gods.

Protestants vote their conscious. Catholics vote as the Pope dicates or they abstain or sometimes they vote with a view that is in opposition.

A liberal doesn't follow "old church" lines on things like "blacks" are second class citizens or animals. "Women" are to be seen and not heard. "Gays" are evil abonations.

If this weren't so, we'd still be burning witches and making blacks sit in the balcony instead of with the white people!

Depending on whose judgement is abided by in determining if someone is a "true Christian", the percentages in the United States range from around 70-80% all the way down to 0.1%.

And no, I don't know why people don't read the question before answering. Sorry.

Please tell me that you are being sarcastic with this statement:

"I mean, these two groups are near the top, if not at the top, of the list for being responsible for everything that is going wrong with our country (the U.S.)."

Because as you point out, liberals and atheists are not the ones in power to do the "screwing up" to begin with.

Go find another boogeyman & scapegoat for the failings of conservatives.

Xtians have got to be the most whinney group of people ever. They are the majority, they make almost all the rules, they are the least persicuted of any religion, but let any smaller group try to stand up for themselves and they scream you are steeping on my religous freedoms. Nobody has, no Athists have said close ALL the churches & arrest any body with a bible, no Satanist has said you will attend black mass & have illicet sex with beautiful strangers. But we all get to hear X-mas music from halloween to new years day, & read in god we trust on our money.

Atheists do not have power in the political circle. But since Atheists tend to adhere to a rather strict since of reality they tend to be right about most things. Atheists also tend to be the Doughting Thomas type. Therefore they tend to catch others mistakes before others.

Please point to the Atheists in the Whitehouse making all these "bad" choices. Until then you are just making wild acusations in an attempt to stirr up trouble.

What makes you think "liberals" and "atheists" are responsible for everything that is going wrong with our country. You just can't make a statement like that without giving some examples to back it up.
