Tell them right away as soon as possible. I waited and my best friend asked her out behind my back cause he knew I liked her. I learned my lesson. Never ignore your feelings, because you will feel even worse if they started dating someone else and you missed your chance.

You can tell them you like them, and you like being around them, but do not push it too far. Too many people often confusing like with love. You establish love with someone over time.
Liking someone generally comes about after being around someone for a little bit of time, or being with them; going out to eat, just sitting around talking, watching movies, etc, and it varies.
Just be sure not to confuse the two and you should be alright!
