Hepatitis C is transmitted by blood to blood contact only. This means that blood infected with hepatitis C must come into direct contact with the bloodstream of another person. Even the smallest amounts of blood can transmit hepatitis C.
Transmission can occur through:
*sharing and equipment used to inject drugs
*unsterile tattooing, body piercing and other skin penetration procedures
*sharing razor blades and toothbrushes
*occupational procedures (accidental needle sticks or cuts from broken blood vials)
*certain sexual activities
*mother to baby.
