The bridge can only hold 14000 lbs, which is the exact weight of the truck. The truck makes it half way across the bridge and stops. A bird lands on the truck. Does the bridge collapse?

no it doesn't collapse, because it uses up gas, which makes it lighter. so when the bird lands on it, it doesn't change the weight from the beginning.

The bridge must have been designed to handle slightly over the 14000 lbs. The bridge will not collapse it. Either that or the engineer was an idiot.

No, bridges are over engineered. Plus a static load is different from a moving load in terms of the stress vectors as transmitted through the bridge supports. In addition, weight limits on bridges are psoted per vehicle meaning the 14,000 lbs in nowhere near the maximum capacity of the bridge.

If this is a riddle, one of the two of us missed something....

If the proper weight of the truck is 50 000 lbs, then the bridge could have collapsed as quickly because of the fact the truck exchange into on the bridge by using extra weight of the motive force, so of course the bridge ought to hold extra effective than 50 000 lbs!!!.
