I need a good, reliable midsize car/sedan (nice looking too if possible)... around $5000... mostly because I can only put $400 down and make payments around $125 a month. Please give me suggestions, esspecially if you know of any in the Southeast Missouri area. I would appreciate it SOOOOO much... I need a first car badly to get to school and work.

As a general rule, avoid cars made by General Motors. They all share low crash-test scores and leak oil. GM manufactures Buick, Chevrolet, and Saturn vehicles.

Ford and Dodge tend to have good crash-test scores and high reliability ratings. They also have fewer oil leak problems than GM cars.

Personally, for $5000, I would recommend the 2001 Ford Focus. It boast good fuel economy (31-35 mpg), excellent crash-test scores, and a high reliability rating. I own one myself, and other than regular maintainance (oil changes, etc), my car has never seen a day in the shop since I bought it in 2005. I've owned my Focus for over one year now, and have no complaints!

1993+ Nissan Maxima. More bang for your buck than a Toyota or Honda. I have a 1992( the square one paid $3750; it has the Bose system and leather and power everything) and drive it as if it were a race car and it has yet to fail on me. Remember if you finance a car then you will need full coverage insurance which will cost at least as much as your car payment.

Most ppl would think this is a bad idea but i have done a couple times and both cars ran fine until i totaled them out. Find someone that sells cars that have previously damaged titles. They sell for a ton less than what you would normally pay and the cars are completely rebuilt. I bought a 99' Hyundai sonata for $3,000. it only had like 40,000 miles on it when I got it. I live in NE Arkansas. Trust me they aren't bad cars.
