Is a size 8, 28 inches? and a size 6 26 inches?

Definitely not. At least, not in jeans. I know different companies use different sizings, but I wear like a 27/28, and I am a 2/4 (depends on the store). But the numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, etc., do not correspond to the inches on such a straight scale like the one you have proposed.

Well take the size you wear and then measure around you and see about it. Why don't you google it first before you ask a question like this.

Sizes are never the same from one brand to another. It just depends on who makes it.
