I don't know about the rods and cones, but I do know they are not totally color blind.I had a dog once that was really offended by the color red,and he wasn't too fond of pink, either. He ate all the red tulips and left the yellow ones,if I wore red he would knock me down,he barked at red cars. Then he expanded to pink and attacked my friend's pink jacket. He was normally pretty mellow. He then started barking at blue cars, but he never attacked blue clothing. So that leads me to believe they can distinguish certain colors.

dogs see 2 diiferent colorings (blue and eco-friendly) while people see 3 (eco-friendly, blue and pink). each and each and every of the colors we see are a mixture of those accepted colorings so at the same time as a god sees coloration that is a diverse view to ours. the reason they merely see 2 colorings is they merely have 2 kinds of cone cellular in the retina fairly than our 3 kinds. each and each and every variety of cone cellular responds to a diverse coloration (wavelength) of sunshine. dogs see better than us in the darkish because they have a significantly better percentage of rod cells than people. Rod cells locate uncomplicated intenisty fairly than wavelength it really is the reason they're useful in darkish circumstances.
