It depends on the pronounciation: if it was a short "dah" it could have been YES in russian, romanian...In german, when pronounced more like a "doohhh" it's a strong YES, when you have a contradiction with someone. Maybe this is the one you actually heard, it's very used in german language....It means also DAY, in some nordic countries, also in Dutch.

In Icelandic "dag" means "day". It's probably similar in other Germanic languages as well.
