Well, most mormons are not taught the root of their religion.
They Just go with what the Prophet says now!
Read an old version of the book of mormon, it is not even close to what it is today.
If God gave Joseph Smith thee exact translation, why would you change it?
However, mormons are great people to hang out with, but I disagree withtheir theology!

I am not anti-mormon. I am not anti-christian, anti -catholic, anti-khaballistic etc. However I see that Mormons tend to be more centralized in certain states. If you live in California per say, you will tend to hear mainly media speaking of the mormon religion. You wont' see too many Mormons unless they are trying to recruit you into their religion and the stuff you hear on the media (television and radio) is usually not good. Its usually geared toward Polygamy and or somthing negative brought on by some other religious group or media group that doesn't beleive in what the Mormon religion teaches. There is much misunderstanding and lack of study in just about every religion, yet people will always tend to judge no matter what.
If you beleive so strongly that their religion is more virtuous than others, I encourage you to engage yourself in all spiritualities. You may find that they are all virtuous in their own way..

I'm using my wife's Yahoo ID right now so whatever.
Anyway, I'm a practicing Mormon, have been my whole life. I served a two year full-time mission for the church down in Brazil and I ran into some people who believed some seriously wacky things about us. One guy told me that he knew we use the temples to keep women hostage and make them slaves (I've been to our temples many times, and this was news to me), and he said he knew that because a woman he knows was among them. According to his story, she escaped by climbing up on the roof of our temple in Salt Lake City and jumping off into the Great Salt Lake. (I asked him if he's aware that this would require her to jump fifteen miles and over a mountain -- he then questioned my knowledge of American geography.)
My point is this: I met dozens of people who had been told vicious falsehoods about the Mormon church by their preachers and priests, clergymen and women who had never been Mormons, had never studied Mormonism, had never had any dealings with Mormons, etc. If you want the truth about who we are and what we believe, just ASK US!!! Would you go to a Ford dealer to ask about the latest Toyota model? How accurate and unbiased do you think his information would be? We send missionaries around the world for the sole purpose of telling people what we really believe, and they do it for free!! Why would you ever consult a non-Mormon source to learn about Mormonism?
So after that diatribe, here's the ultimate breakdown of what I'm saying. There are supremacist groups who hate blacks, Asians, Mexicans, Catholics (just ask the KKK), Jews, Mormons, etc. If you can hate it, there's a group for that. Why? I don't know. Seems like living just to hate something or someone else is a tragic way to waste your life. There's a lot of rubbish about the Mormon church out there, but if you really want to know the truth about what we believe, consult the following sources:
1) www.mormon.org
2) www.lds.org
3) The local missionaries, who can be reached through www.mormon.org
4) Any Mormon
5) Not your preacher or Google
We're in the business of telling people what we really believe. That's why we keep sendin' them missionaries around.
Oh, and a P.S. to tinkerbell: we do celebrate holidays. Christmas, New Years, Valentine's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween, birthdays, etc., etc., and even the 24th of July (the day in 1847 when the first Mormon settlers entered the Salt Lake Valley). Holidays are awesome!

I'm not anti-Mormon, but I am skeptical of many of their beliefs, as I am just that way towards all beliefs. I think that the Mormon beliefs are not literally true, but it is still a good religion because they do seem to have good family values and most of the Mormons I've met are just very good people.

I don't know anything about their religion.
Never read the Book of Mormon.
I did read "The Executioners Song" by Norman Mailer.
The military loves Mormons. They tend to be squeaky clean and easy to grant security clearances to.
They also have language skills acquired from their missionary work so they are great candidates for military language schools.
No beef with Mormons except they don't drink coffee. I been drinking coffee since I was 11.
Very family oriented.

most Christians consider the Bible the only source of our belief in God and Jesus. The Mormons have an extra book which is not accepted by other religions. Mormons are considered a cult by the Southern Baptists. I have studied in length at church, and they do some weird things. They strive to be gods.

Why did the original book of Mormon get changed by mormons if they truly believed the original was inspired from gold plates? The original version had Jesus Christ's name 600 years before He was even born. Gabriel told Mary what her sons name would be. Seeing their great mistake the Mormons then changed the words Jesus Christ to Messiah, pretty sloppy don't you think? Thats why Mormonism is so much man made foolishness!

Anyone who makes a stand for anything opens themselves up to criticisms. Many people believe anything they hear or misinterpret things because they don't care to find out for real. I find that when looking into a faith it's about finding out that faith consists of, not what people outside the faith think of it. If you are more worried about the perception of the believers than the beliefs, then I don't know what to tell you.

Not. Not anti-anything/one. Just anti-anti's.
Right on!
It's pure prejudice. Like saying you don't like peas--though, you've never eaten peas, before.
Investigate; then, reject, if you must from a position of knowledge, not from from a position of ignorance.
Know of your own eyes, not through the eyes of your neighbor; hear of your own ears, not through the ears of your neighbor; know of your own knowledge, not through the knowledge of your neighbor. Don't believe what ANYone tells you. Pray. Ask God.
In the Baha'i Faith, it's known as the "independent investigation of the truth". It is a basic tenent of the Baha'i Faith.
Baha'u'llah, the prophet-founder of the Baha'i Faith, said we must investigate truth with neither love nor hate in our hearts and minds for the the matter being investigated. We should investigate with an open heart and mind, all the while asking God to guide us toward truth, away from error.
He said for every Baha'i book we read, we should read 12 other books, so as not to have BLIND faith (like a horse with blinders on); but, faith through knowledge.
He said we should know something about everything and everything about something.

well did the religion start with a mentally unstable man who talked to a silver salamander, then got kicked out of almost all the eastern states, told people that Jesus came to America, with no proof at all,one would think the American Indians would have had some sort of recorded proof, and wasn't Mr smith and his brother killed by a mob of different religions, and I'm sorry but Mormons boast about their popularity, when they are a religion that is taking the names of dead people like the Jews in the Holocaust and using stand In's and baptizing them into Mormons(this is very true it was an issue in many papers).i will say that the religion has very strong family ties, and will help its members out in times of need, but like most religions their also Hippocrates,no caffeine but then the church go us out and buys coke plants or something, and you cant work on Sundays, but famous athletes can..........
