I don't have any cats or dogs, but when I went babysitting, I picked up fleas from their dogs. Someone told me the fleas can't survive though and so I don't need to worry because I don't have any pets. Is this accurate information?

They still have YOU to live off of. They get in your carpet and start laying eggs. Then those new fleas lay yet even more eggs.
They will get their required food from biting you or any visitors that stop by.
Bomb 'em. Stop the cycle early in the game.

If you have them in your carpet, they can hang around for quite a while. They are also able to survive in lawns in the summertime and that is where the pets get them. If you do not have any pets, fish or birds then you are in luck - a "bug bomber" or "fogger" works very well. Just be sure to follow the directions and not hang around while you use it. It is a lot trickier to get rid of fleas when you have pets because the foggers are often toxic to our little pals.

I once had an infestation in my car from going to a customer's home. They lasted for weeks until a 1/2" wolf spider looking spider hitched a ride. I was busy driving, so I let him live. Three days later, the fleas were all GONE. I let spiders live now.

I agree that they can live off of you for awhile. Lay some eggs.. etc. You can go to Target and buy flea spray from their animal section. It is approximately $5.00 and you can spray it all around the house. Kills fleas in 10 mins and flea eggs too!

You alreadt have plenty of advice but I just wanted to add a comment. Fleas can go dormant. A friend of mine bought a used couch and it had fleas. She put it outside in -20 below temps for a week. When she brought it back in they came right back to life.

By all means use a fogger. It will not kill the eggs. Wait 7-10 days and use a fogger again. That should kill any fleas that hatched in between.

You'll still need to have your home exterminated or set off smoke bombs yourself. You could of brought the fleas in from the grass.

Yeah, they'll come after you!! Take your salt shaker & shake it all over your carpet. I swear this works!! The fleas will eat it & explode. Then you simply vacuum them up & you're done!!
Much Love!!

get a fogger because you don't have to have pets to have fleas. they live in rugs, clothes, your couch, even your bed. they bread quick and before you know it you will be infested, so you may want to move quick.

You will become the host. They are parasites and live off of blood.
