I have a rat terrier blue heeler mix that just had puppies fathered by a blue heeler. All but one of the puppies were born with short tails. I didn't know they could be born that way. Is this characteristic of any signifance?

go to australian shepards on the internet.thats where I got info on my dog its mixed and i was wanting to breed him with my dalmation and found the info there .You can have their tales docked so IF they were already born that way it saves you money .man I bet its a wild dog full of energy.mine is but he is so cute and his tail isnt docked yet and he loves to hit you with it .They are used to bring the cattle in from the fields.

Most true heelers (blue or red) are born with stubs, but only if the bloodline is close to true.

that happens because of mixed breed breeding. some breeds mixed to gether will cause half tailes and bob tails. i had a miniture american eskimo have pups that were fathered by a pitbull. even tho niether of those breeds had short tails some of the pups had long tails, some had half tales and some had bobtails. it just happens sometimes when different breeds are bred together

blue heeler is the nickname for an australian cattle dog. i had one (i assume she was pur bred, she was hit by a car in front of our house, so we nursed her back to health, no one claimed her, so we kept her)

in my expierence, they are WONDERFUL dogs. very loyal, obedient, they like to please and are quick learners. mine was always so happy to see me, very hyper, but not in an annoying way. i loved her to death, and miss her like crazy (she died a few years ago) i would really recommend one.

the link below is from the American Kennel Club, its a good recorse
