I am 28, have been married five years to a wonderful man, yet I have zero desire for children. I am completely in love with animals, and I love to take care of my pets, but when it comes to kids, I dread the thought of having them. I dread my freedoms being gone forever. I don't get excited around babies, and I don't want to hold or be near everyone's baby. It's not that I hate kids; it's just that I have no maternal instinct when it comes to them. So why do I have such a high maternal instinct for animals but not children? Can anyone else relate?

I once became pregnant during the marriage, and when I found out, I thought I would die. It was like the most horrible, TRAPPED feeling in the world. I felt like my life was over. I couldn't stop crying. Needless to say, the pregnancy didn't come to term, and I was SO relieved!

You are not the only woman in this situation. I think it means that you are just very in touch with your feelings and instincts. Look at all the women who have no maternal instinct but have babies--I only wish they'd realized it wasn't their calling. You have many other gifts and talents and I think you should happily pursue them and not stress about not being called to have children. You need not feel guilty or awkward! You should be thankful that you are so self-aware!

Just because you have a maternal instinct for animals dosent mean that you wouldnt have one for kids. How can you judge when you never had a kid YOURSELF to find out? Ofcourse your not going to have a maternal instinct towards other people's children! Children and animals are not the same. Maybe thats where the answer lye's though. You seem to have a desire to feel needed and wanted and an urge to have a bond with other living things etc. Maybe you are suit for a baby but your desire to bond with animals is throwing you off track. Like you said, you dont hate children...and your feelings are understandable but just because you like animals dont mean that you wouldnt like a child...The solution to your problem....I suggest you be more open minded about it, think about it more, really, think if you still feel the same way then hey! Theres nothing wrong with that. Big BUT though, if your hubby wants children, you should go for it...
good luck and best wishes :)

I always wished I had gotten a cat instead of pregnant. Too late now, but 8 years later, I got my cat! Enjoy your life. If you are happy how things are, don't feel pressure to change. Sounds like you already know that, though, and know what you want in life. I'd say the majority of stress in a marriage comes when the kids do. Enjoy what you have.

Not everyone does. The important thing is not to let people pressure you into doing something with your life that you don't want to do. If you have kids you will just resent them, which will ruin your life and thiers. Theres nothing wrong with choosing not to have kids. Not everyone is cut out to be a parent. Besides, 6 1/2 billion is enough damned people.

Lots of people have that feeling. The reason is animals are pets. If they die, they die. Society doesn't place much value. When it comes to children they are a part of us. It is a 24 hour job and people are terrified. Life, as you know it, will change drastically.

examine your earliest childhood and your upbringing. there are most likely some experiences back then that put these feelings into you.
