Well, you've got a good point there. What good is life, unless we can really make something special about it?
Probably a lot of people forget that this is what life's all about: to learn. What to learn? To learn about happiness, joy, light, all the stuff that makes it worth while.
I have a good friend who is an atheist. She has a sparkle in her eye when she talks about accountability and living for today. She's a good person, someone I'd love to spend more time with.
It doesn't mean that all of her conclusions are sound, but are all of mine? We're all going through life, learning, finding truth and holding on to that. Insofar as we accept truth when we recognize it, that's progress for all of us.
Sometimes people in Christianity motivate one another with a promise of heaven. But, that's not the full story. Christianity also teaches a salvation on this earth because of common-sense living, kindness, and living to the highest light we are priveleged to comprehend. As we find integrity in our lives, we find peace and even a piece of heaven on earth, so to speak.
The thing that is so special about earth, is this is a place where we can find the meaning to things. Imagine a world full of light, nothing but light. What is light to such a person? Same with love, joy, grace, power, creativity, harmony, etc. Until we know what something is, we can't value it. We couldn't value it before until we asked what it was. The only way we could find out what it was came through creating something not that. This includes things like time, death, taxes :), pain, the ego mind, limitations, confusion, darkness, etc. We get to see all this so we can comprehend all that.
So what damn good is this earth? It's the whole pie: it's the freedom to really grasp what it's all about and enjoy the process.
Bottom line: a true Christian (or any theist) will value life as the greatest gift received so far because of the door it unlocks for us.

Nice deduction. Yes, Heaven is obviously 'better' than life on Earth, but this life on Earth is meant as a test to determine whether individuals deserve eternal paradise or eternal fire. What's the meaning of this test, you may ask? Even as a religious person, I couldn't tell you. However, maybe I'll understand later in life, or even the hereafter. I'm convinced that there's a God, but I don't fully understand his intentions yet as to the meaning of this life on Earth. Suicide would prematurely end this test, so I guess that's why it's not permitted by God. Maybe this helps a bit...

You're only saying that coz you're atheist! There is a better place coz your people make this world depressing for the rest of us! What do you know about a "suicide clause"?!---I bet you would since you hate your life here. You guys are all pessimistic and negative people! Stop asking stupid questions that you are so uneducated about!!!!!!!!!! It's a shame that you hate the world so much that you hate yourself and decide to become an atheist! Why?---coz God wouldn't answer you? Then you are a quitter, which proves that pessimism and negativity rules under your so called atheism!!!! Get a life!---oh yeah, you wouldn't know how to appreciate it anyway! You bunch of hypocrites!

I'm not sure why you think Christians value death more than life, because it isn't true. God has placed each one of us here for a reason. Until we accomplish the job that He has for us to do, He will leave us here on earth. A Christian does not want to be in heaven if God still has work for him/her to do here.

Actually, Christians believe we are in the kingdom age now!
If we practice Christianity as it is taught life here can be close to heaven! So No you are wrong!
If that is the view you have of Christianity you should read this free onlinebook linked below!
I would much have you call out Christians for not practicing it!

I value life as the most important thing that can ever be undertaken. It is life that give us the knowledge of right from wrong, happiness from unhappiness, pain from pleasure. How to make choices that will affect the rest of our lives. To learn all that we can while here on earth is our main goal. All these things we need to know in order to become more like God, with out them we will never be able to receive all that the father has as promised.

We're here for a purpose. I am glad and rejoice for the life God has given me. God made a gorgeous universe. I have 2 boys I am raising that I am grateful God has entrusted to my care. I cant wait to be a grandma and see my grandkids. But if I must die, I look forward to heaven. Christians have hope and a new body that never decays to look forward to.

There is something special about both the miracle of life, and also the miracle of death. We don't completely understand either.
Some people believe that "Thy Kingdom Come, thy will be done ON EARTH as it is in HEAVEN." What exactly does that quote mean to you?
That really makes me think.

Once a Christian reaches heaven, the effect they had on humans will pay of, so life is important to give you standing in heaven while death gets you there. It's kinda selfish...
