Many reasons. If you're not turned on, then you may not have enough lubrication. Also, if you haven't done it in a while, your muscles will tighten up. Or, for some women, after they have children, it may hurt for a while. Finally, if there is another on-going issue down there, such as bladder problems, etc, that could also make it hurt. I wouldn't say necessarily that they are "tight."
