If you mean how you can tell they are from California, the label has to say where the winery is located.

The appellation (growing region) is also listed. It could be "California" or a region in California, like "Napa Valley", "Central Coast", "Paso Robles", etc. The grapes actually can be from anywhere, but they don't ship in grapes from somewhere else too far away - too expensive. If the winery is in California, it is very likely the grapes are from there as well.

What region of California they are made in, for example: Napa, Sonoma, Monterrey, Russian River Valley and many more.

They are also identified by how they were barreled after the grapes were squeezed, giving it a more Oaky flavor, or the taste of herbs or more heavily in fruit.
