Okay, since this happens to be my career area for obvious reasons, lets just skip over the ask a recruiter part. You need at least 4 years of college in desirable fields( pref. engineering of some type) 20/20 vision, no heart or lung problems, health is always important since we tend to fly long missions ( I flew for 14 to 16 hours a day this last deployment). One of the first steps is to be excepted into the OCS ( Officer Candidate School) and pass the exams that are going to qualify you for the aviation program, such as the psych evals. These are the most important because we're required to make split second decisions under pressure. Once admitted to the aviation program, you'll go thru several phases of flight instruction beginning with BFI ( Basic Flight Instruction where I'm now a instructor) and progress form there. Be forewarned that not everyone gets assigned to a Hornet, but rather where they're needed more. The whole process takes about 12 to 14 months, after which you'll earn your wings.
As for working conditions, be prepared to fly long hours. But over all, it's the best job you'll ever have in life. I hope this answers your questions if not drop me a email and I'll provide you with some links that will give you more detail. Good luck in joining our ranks, we always need good qualified aviation prospects.
And to the little smart mouth **** below me, perhaps it's you that needs to learn to spell properly. Of course, maybe your lack of spelling skill is what keeps you out of the military. And FYI....I have 6 years of college with a Masters. Dumb ***. Anyway, here's a link that will give you more information.

First, Mr Navy pilot doesn't spell like he has had 4 years of college. Second, it depends on what type of aircraft you wish to fly. The Army's flight program will accept people off the street with little or no college. It is also known as "Street to Seat" and "High School to Flight School." This is for rotary wing aircraft (helicopters). If you want info, type "army flight training, recruiting" into a search engine and you will find many helpful websites. If you are interested in fixed wing (airplanes/jets) then i'm sure you can do a similar search for the other services.

You gotta have 20/20 vision, become a mormon with your diet(cannot consume any produce that can alter your state of mind) and be pretty damn smart with balls of steel and heart of stone.
