They are marking things with their scent glands. When they rub their faces against you, they are claiming you as theirs!

It is a way of marking their terratory. They have glands in their face that secretes fluid that leaves their scent on whatevr they rub against. When cats rub their face against you, this is often misconstrewed as affection, but in all actuallity, they are marking you as their property and owner.

all cats(even the big ones) have scent glands along their jawline.. when a cat rubs its face on something(and if you watch them carefully you ll see them do it on everything around them)they are "marking" their........well.. property so to speak. the fact that YOU are the recipient of most of this behavior explains where the idea of "cats owning" or "picking" their people started.a cats scent is as unique and individual as our fingerprints are. so there is absolutely NO mistake in their world or ours who and what belongs to THEM!

Cats use glands on their foreheads and around their mouths and chins to mark us with their special scent. They deposit their scent on us to mark us as " their territory." We belong to the cats. LOL.
