You can go some where if you want. In a pinch however you can go somewhere in your mind. For example: I go to the memories that were most relaxing as a child. I grew up in the country and didn't have air conditioning. During the summer my brother and I would go down to a spring fed creek swimming. The water was crystal clear and cold. I use to swim underwater exploring the bottom, looking at all the little minnows swimming around. Underwater you could hear no sound and were completely Isolated. Find your favorite place and go there in your mind take a few deep breaths and enjoy the memory. It works.............. If it doesn't take a couple of xanax and drink a couple beers. lol

Here are some of the tips on "distracting" yourself if you want to get away types. However, I don't personally like the idea of "running away" but anyway...

a) Take time off from your work. Browse through old family photographs and home videos that bring back joyful memories.

b) Go off on holiday for 3-4 days on an iseland that is peaceful and not crowded. Spend time alone doing meditation and self-motivating thinking.

c) Visit another country like India, Nepal, Ezypt etc that are totally different than your country (assuming you are not from any country similar to these) that will take you in a different world for a while. It always works.

d) Divert yourself into one of the interesting problems at hand that you would like to solve. Completely focus on it and don't worry about rest happening around you (unless of course there is a matter of emergency or dire responsibility)

hope that helps.

When I need to get away from everything I go into my room. I put a comedy movie on and I lay in bed and watch it. It lets me get away from all my problems, relax, and hoepfully laugh at the jokes in the films. I used to also go to the local waterfront and walk down the docks.

I turn inward. There is no place to go to escape others and society and things, except your own mind. I sit and I let myself be selfish for a few moments. I allow my mind to concentrate and focus on myself. I think of thoughts I've thought before and sometimes I think of brand new thoughts. I dismiss some thoughts, and hit "Save As..." on others. Sometimes I contemplate the world around me, and other times I don't.

Your mind is your only escape.

Hmm, well, since you're asking this under Religion and Spirituality, I'm guessing you mean some kind of spiritual retreat? Mountains or ocean. Preferably both, like Maine or Scotland. Beautiful places - I feel very connected to God in places like that.

But if you mean further, my aunt has a place alongside 200,000 acers of woods, dirt roads, a person can go there and get literally lost. But, luckily, I know my way around.
