Here's a bit of Phelp's wikipedia entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rev._Fred_Phelps):
"Phelps has gained national attention for interrupting the funerals of American servicemen killed in Iraq, staging cynical, mocking protests against the United States government, the deceased soldiers, and their families. He claims such deaths, along with other tragic events such as the September 11 attacks and Hurricane Katrina, are caused by God because of his hatred of homosexuals and America's tolerance of them. Along with funerals, Phelps and his followers frequently picket various events, especially gay pride gatherings and high-profile political gatherings, and even grand openings of new Starbucks coffee houses, arguing it is their sacred duty to share their views with others."
Here's his organizations website:

Are these people not the most disgusting, hatefull people you've ever seen? How can anyone agree with him?

Fred Phelps hates America...because we supposedly allow sodomy. He hates homosexuality and therefore being an American he hates us all because we live here. He hates the flag because it represents America. He hates soldiers because they represent America. Phelps hates homosexuality and therefore hates America. He is a fool to say the least.
Most of his demon children have become lawyers, therefore he has a way to RUN OVER THE US CONSTITUTION!!! He pushes it to the limit!
FRED PHELPS IS THE MOST EVIL SATANIC PERSON ON EARTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He says Thank god for katrina....thank god for dead soldiers, thank god for toe tags, thank god for 9/11, thank god for the tsunami, the pope is in hell!
His organization, his family, and he are going to burn slowly in hell one day. Praying for death is NOT christian!
It also pisses off the country when you travel to attend the funerals of FALLEN soldiers and praise their deaths!!
Phelps is from Mississippi (we don't claim him either!!) I have friends who have seen them protest. They've been here in my college town just down the street. They are bad people sending out a bad message.

I'm not really sure of his Christianity. I know he doesn't sound much like the Jesus I read about in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
I do know he is a horrible person. The antics he and his followers are known for are the lowest form of democracy.
I can only assume he was unbelievably abused as a child.

Amazing, isn't it, how much damage one man can do to the cause of Christianity?
Fred Phelps is a very sad, angry little man, and I do feel great pity for him. But I have even more compassion for the families who already have enough sorrow to deal with.
Phelps needs mental help, and so does anyone who would follow him. His method of dealing with homosexuality bring shame to Christians everywhere, but mostly. he is just embarrassing himself, and his followers.

I don't like to judge whether or not a person is "Christian" or not, but the guy isn't following some very key principles of the religion. Like how it isn't for us to judge. Or maybe that we should forgive, and have been forgiven, not damned, by Christ, the priomary root of this religion.

Absolutely not. I had quite a discussion with my pastor about this several weeks ago. He gave me several specific point about where Mr. Phelps is inaccurate in his reasoning, actions, and intentions. I was more than disturbed and ticked that Mr. Phelps is carrying on like this in the name of God and Christianity.

If I get to be his judge, I would say no he is not a Christian. Since he's only got about 30 people that follow him, he's not much of a force in the world.

I believe he's actually a lawyer and he's hoping for someone to take a swing at him so he can sue them and get his pathetic little inbred family church into worldwide news at the same time.

Just goes to show just how far some Religious Zealots will go for what they believe in. Religion can be a very dangerous when not tempered with due respect for our fellow man.
Best advice I can give anyone about religion is: Go to Church and believe whatever you want to believe in and leave everyone else alone.

Yeah, well it's my "sacred" duty to warn others that this guy is tantamount to a David Koresh-type. He thinks he's God (or close to it) and anyone that follows his rant is just brainwashed.

Most Christians like myself are turned off by him. He spouts hate, not love like Christ/God did. Even Sean Hannity dissed him on Fox News last night.
