I am currently living in Japan as a foreign student. I am going to apply student visa for Portugal for 1-2 years. The visa application requires 'certificate of criminal record issued by the police station'. I am facing difficulty to collect this doc. Is it possible to collect it in Japan (I am facing some langauge barrier)? If I apply to portugese embassy here in Japan - is it OK if I collect it from my home country? I am in real trouble with doc-- any advise will be highly appreciated

Yes - police in Japan can issue you a "police report" that basically says you have no police report...

I believe it is called "Mu-Hanzai-Sho-Mei", literally means No Criminal (record) Certificate.

You really have to ask the Portugal embassy for what they will accept. Likely, you'll need it from your home country and Japan.

HANZAI KEIREI SHOMEI SHO .....or MUCHANZAI SHOMEI SHO
<<<<<<<>>>>>>
If you would require a certificate of your criminal record,, you have to go to your home country embassy and request one..they would do the finger printing there. You have to wait and they would inform you then you have to pick it up again and send it to the one you are applying.... it would take time so it is better to send them a notification that you are requesting this police record . while your other documents is in process..one documents would affect the processing of your application
be sure to make appointment first or call your If you have problems about language barrier...ask someone who can speak for you.. but it is your embassy..I don't think you need one...
this is what I did when I was request for..you can ask your embassy again before going there... and if you need one from Japan.. it is better to have someone with you because you have to read and write kanji on their forms... or ask the assistance desk to help you fill up one.. there is nothing you can do but to ask them to guide you because you are a foreigner.. and you are a student..they would understand it... and you would need a letter/evidence from the processing office you are applying student visa to get this..and some other requirements..

good day!

come back on your question and upload on your question, in which united states you're operating? because you will get a police clearance from consular amenities(Philippines consulate),at the same time as in that united states.
