My dad died when I was 9. My mom had 5 kids and had to work to take care of all of us. We just all had to help each other. I know this is hard on you. Times like these make us grow up faster than we want to. The good news is that it makes you stronger for when you have trouble later in life. It is important that you stay focused on school, but help your family as much as you can. As your brother gets older, it will get easier. Love sometimes means that you have to think of others more and yourself not as much. But I know you can do this because of your question. You are an awesome son. Your brother will grow up admiring you. Be sure to teach him how a real man treats a woman. Just stay close and true to your family and you'll be fine, no matter what. Remember that your family's love is the most important thing you'll ever need, and you've got it already, so there's nothing the three of you can't handle!
Good luck David. Keep your hopes alive always, and God bless you and your family.
Scott

I can't really put myself into your shoes, that's a big responsibility that I just can't relate to. All I can really say that might be helpful is that you just need to do the little things to help your mom. If your mom is coming home late you could try cooking dinner or something. Your mom will be really grateful for that. If you don't do that already, go the extra mile and start doing laundry or something. There is not much you can do, but believe me the little things add up. Try and just be a helpful person wherever you go.

u dont have to take care ur mom i mean to the real sense of it,like u will have to take care of everything!ur still young, kid!is ur mom working now?if nobody is supporting ur family ur mom should find a job, then take the baby to a nursery home or maybe u can help her take care of the baby when its week end and u dont have any class and shes out for work.u can help ur mom a lot by not adding urself to her worries and doing some things that u can do like house work which she has been doing.too bad if only u can tell ur mom to use contraceptives.

My dad died when I was 11 and if I could go back I would have learned to cook at a your age and simply made dinner every night to help my mom out. I am a mom now and that would make a world of difference to me.

You should love them both, and do what you can to help your mother whenever she needs you, but you should never forget that you are a kid, and just starting your life. Don't blame yourself for what might happen, and try not to worry about things that are out of your control. Help them, and enjoy your life. If you don't, you will later grow up to resent them for losing on your life, and start to blame them for missing out on things you would've been doing in your age.
I was in your shoes, or I should say I am in your shoes. I have missed so much, and now regret it. My dad died when I was three, so I don't even remember him. Ever since he died, my mother used him as way to get to us, and threaten us if we don't do this or that for her, she too will die, and we all will be left alone without father or mother, so, so all tried to do anything for her to please her and make her happy. She was not happy, nor were we.
Be with her and help her, but never forget yourself. You can't love another person if you don't take care of yourself first.

I don't think your mom wants you to "take care" of her and your little brother. You can help her by staying out of trouble, doing your best in school, helping with chores around the house. That would help her immensely.
