My kitten lives both indoors and out. It prefers outdoors in the morning and in the afternoon/night it likes to be inside. It is 9 weeks. Ive had the male kitten for a month. Should i buy it a scratching post or a bed. My kitten likes to climb so height is no problem. The post has an enclosed sleeping area in the bottom, a scratcher inda middle, and a flat rugged surface on the top. It looks super confrotable. My dads going to sell it to me. Should i buy the scratching post or a bed. Am asking this because my dads cat has never used the scratching post at all whatsoever. Do You think my cat will do the same thing. Thanks. 10 ptz for best answer...

i would go with the scratching post because especially when it gets older cats LOVE to scratch well actually sharpen their claws. As far as a bed the cats i have had when i did have cats inside they never really used their bed they slept with me or on the back of the couch they like high places to sleep they feel safe that way. PLUS, the scratching post has a sleeping area up top so really you would be getting two things in one rather than just a bed. Good luck with your lil kitten

Buy A Scratching Post

If you are letting your kitten keep its claws (which I wholeheartedly support), it needs something that it knows it can scratch. A scratching post is the ideal thing. To get it to focus on the post, buy some catnip and rub the post all over with it. Repeat every few weeks to refresh the smell. Whenever the kitten uses the post, praise him profusely. whever it trys to scratch on something else, immediately tell it "no" and carry it to the post and run it's paws down the post, praising him as you do it. He'll get the idea.

The other thing you should start doing NOW, is clipping the ends of his claws with nail clippers. Do it carefully so as not to cut into the "quick" and hurt him...That will get him scared of getting his nails cut. Its important to get him used to it before he gets too old. Its also a good idea to do the clipping when he's really relaxed...like during his mid-morning/afternoon nap. Just kinda come up to him very calmly and start doing so as to not get him excited.

Since your Dad is so nice and hopefully is offering you this at a reduced price(since he will not give it to you)--I would tell you to go ahead and buy it---
Your Kitty being young should like it--since he is young this will develop his habits to use it more.
When you first get it--vacuum it well--it will still have the other Kitty's scent (from being in the house), and your kitty may not like that!
Play with your kitten --put him on the high part and drag one of his favorite toys around on the scratching post= and he should have a ball~~
Hope this will help-

Yes. You should definetly buy a scratching post because you don't want your kitten to scratch up your furniture while it is a kitten or an adult, plus it is good for cats to scratch it takes off their old dead skin and other things on their claws and it sharpend their claws so they can climb trees and play and practice catching their own food and defending their selves.

The Post. Cause my previous cat Bo never had a scratching post, so he tore up all da furniture. But wen Bo left we bought 2 more kits as wel as a post, & r furniture is pretty much unharmed. But if ur kit does end up tearing up da furniture, then u should buy this double sided sticky tape that goes on da furniture & wen da kit comes 2 scratch it, itl touch da sticky stuff (cats dont lik sticky stuff) itl learn to stay away from da furniture.

Mose definitely. It is a lot bette than putting the cat thought the hell of declawing. Buy some cat nip and put it on the scratching post. The cat will love it.

my cat as a kitten it still is and one still acts like has a post with a bed and as a kitten they are playful and want something to tear up. so the post with bed may not be such a bad idea.

My cat never used one, scratches everything but that. You might want to put a little catnip on it to lure the cat into using it.
