Is not the answer to your question decided by you based upon your view of good and bad? Or maybe it is based upon the standards that a society sets as good or bad.
I do hope you read the Bible as I do. In it I find three interesting statements. One says. "No one is good but God alone". Another says, "No one is righteous, no not one". Finally, "All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God".
I do accept the bible as being a guide book that is designed to reveal constantly consistent truth. I see the Bible as a book that contains words that My God wants me to understand. Thus based upon the quoted words I must understand it as saying that David was other than good.
In this position I am now faced with the question ask by you. Is it possible for one to be other than good to be good totally such as a good father. I have no alternative but to not expect something pure good to come out of a other than good source.
From anothe view I see David was a father. If we are to compare degrees in say good, better, best with no other options, how can I answer that question since I read no one is good? But if the chart is from no good at all to the best there is possble, maybe I could give my opinion only but such would only be an opion based upon my standards and not the standards of others.
In conclusion I guess I can not give a positive answer but I do hope I made you think some. So do have a good day.

Personally, I think he was a bad father. He left a poor example for his sons by sinning with Bathsheba, and because of that was punished by God, who split his kingdom, and his son took over, tried to kill David, raped David's wives, and in general caused great chaos. If David had stayed focused on God entirely and followed His commands, he would have done much better.

David was a man after God's own heart - that is what the Bible says about him - so what do you think? David made some mistakes - but he repented and God loved him.

Because of David's sins, calamity was raised in his immediate household.
Sad things. Murder and rape amongst his kids. One wanted to take over the throne.
I can't say about his parenting skills, but Davids sins brought the consequences on the family.
