I don't know what these people are talking about, or where they are from, but I've lived in New York my whole life, and JFK is a NO NO, unless you HAVE to fly there. It is SO far away it is ridiculous to ever travel through JFK to get into Manhattan. And it costs a fortune to get a cab from there.

Everyone keeps saying LaGuardia, and that's okay, but seriously Newark, NJ is the best one, for sure. First of all, you can see the statue of liberty from Liberty State Park, which is in NJ, right around Newark Airport! But, if you want to come into the city, then you can totally take a cab (so quick and easy) from Newark right through the Holland tunnel to lower Manhattan where the ferries to the Statue of Liberty are. OR... from Newark, NJ, you can take a NJ transit train straight to Penn Station, and then catch the subway down to lower Manhattan and get your ferry ticket. JFK and LaGuardia to not give you these options, and they are both farther from your primary site.

Have fun!

You can fly into any of the 3 New York Area Airports (John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia or Newark Liberty) to ge to NYC. All are reaonably close to New York.

Depending on where you live and the airfares, one of them will be best for you. (For example, LaGuardia handles only domestic flights so if you were coming from say London, you would go either to JFK or Newark.)

If you have a choice, Newark tends to be the least crowded and have the fewest delays. But if there is a weather problem, all of the airports are equally effected.

One more thing....should you fly into LaGuardia and IF the landing approach is the one over Brooklyn, then you will get a magnificent view of the statue of liberty and all of Manhattan from the left side of the plane. But that is luck. You cannot plan that. I fly into LaGuardia frequently and it happens probably on every 4th or 5th flight.

Have fun in NY.

If traveling to JFK, you can take the air-train shuttle from the airport to Jamaica train station then transfer to take the train directly into New York City Penn Station. From there you can get almost anywhere in the city by subway or take a taxi.

I would go with Newark NJ.... they have a shuttle service that will take you into Manhattan for about ten dollars (cheaper than a taxi from JFK or La Guardia).
