A friend of our family has recently professed his love for me and essentially proposed. I love him as a friend - but this has come as a big shock. He's been really sweet - but I'm not in love with him romantically. What should I do - try to give him a chance to see where it goes - or just let him down?

It doesn't need to be yes or no. It can be wait and let's see.

Let him down, now! You have no right to keep him hanging on and hoping that something will come of his affection for you. Make it totally clear that you do not have any romantic feelings for him and never will have. You must be brutally honest; it is the kindest thing to do. B

id give him a chance just because he's your friend but dont lead him on and make him think you're completley falling for him because then if it doesnt work then he'll feel alot worse let him know that you're going to see how it goes and if it doesnt go well then its over

Let him know how you feel. If he pursues you, let him, and get to know him more also. See what happens as time goes by and maybe your feelings will change.

Don't lead him on, tell him you don't feel the same way
