It is best to use cold water whenever making coffee or even tea for that matter.
Try drinking hot or warm water and then cold water; chances are that the hot/warm water will taste flat compared to the cold water. That is because the hotter the water gets, the more oxygen it loses. Since the water in a coffee maker is going to be heated, don't start off with hot water or you'll lose even more oxygen from the water.
Less oxygen = flat tasting coffee = UGH.....LOL
Hope that helps!

According to the Joe Muggs Brewing Tips website I've found, "The ideal water temperature for all brewing methods (except espresso) is "water just off the boil" (195 to 205 degrees)." Basically, boil water and give it a moment to cool. The website goes on to explain that water cooler than that doesn't capture the whole flavor of the coffee beans.
It's an urban legend that cold water boils faster than hot water. As written about at this website: http://www.sciam.com/askexpert_question.cfm?articleID=0008EB6B-6C7E-1C71-9EB7809EC588F2D7 So, there's no reason that cold water would be better than hot water for coffee making.
Hope that helps!

When cooking or making coffee, it is always best to start with cold water. Hot water from the tap has a significantly higher level of lead content.

Hot water is faster but taste improves if you rainse the pot or cup with cold water and use cold water.
In most areas you have some types of mineral in the water which is noticeable when you use water from the water heater in making coffee.

Cold water is best. You want to have the water heated up just before it hits the coffee bean.

I've always been told that the best coffee starts with cold, filtered water. Not bottled, filtered. I guess as long as the coffee tastes good, it really doesn't matter what temperature the water is, or what kind of beans you use--just a matter of personal taste.

Cold water. It draws the flavor out of the coffee as it warms up.

I always start with cold filtered water but it sits in the machine overnight so it comes to room temperature when I start it in the am.
