First, you are stealing him...if he likes you and not her...then it is him who has made the decision not to like her...not you making the decision for him.
Second, you will hurt her, but she needs to remember that he stilll wants to be her friend. It isn't like he said yeah I like you to her but he likes you...he did say that he doesn't want anything other than a friendship from her...remind her of that
Third, tell your friend about the feelings you have for this guy. If she is a true friend she will be happy for you if he likes you. See what she thinks about the whole situation. Explain to her that you didn't want anything from him in the beginning...and something happened...something that you did not plan to happen.

Ive been through this except when my boy friend and I broke up my so called best who has always liked him tried to steal him from me and is trying to hook up with him now. I seriously wouldn't do it. A friendship isn't worth a boy. Feeling like a close friend backstabbed you and stole you're ex who she knew you still had feelings for is the worst feeling ever,

She needs to be weaned from him and have nothing to do with him for a while, then you can make your move. In order to wean her, she must be distracted, so instead of going to see this guy, take her to do other things where she can potentially meet someone else. This is going to take some time, so you'll need to have some patience. If you were meant to be with this guy, it'll happen regardless of the amount of time that goes by.

So who's stealing? He's already told her he's not interested in her as anything more than a friend. So it's her own fault if she won't drop it.
Is she going to be hurt? Probably. That's why triangles have sharp pointy ends, they always wind up hurting somebody (yeesh, did I just say that?).

Close friends don't go out with a guy a close friend likes. (at least for 6 weeks lol)

You are sure in a pickle! I would definatley find out from HIM first if he really liked you and wanted to pursue a relationship then break it to her gently because if you don't and go and tell her about it first and get her all wound up and ticked only to find out that he had no interest you wind up losing both of them. Go to him first and find out.
