One of my friends started screwing around with my Mac Ibook G4 and now every time i start up or want to install anything new, i need to enter my password.

Specifically: how do I eliminate this from happening? I've already tried deleting the password in the System Preferences > Users (it tells me first that anyone could access my computer, and then it tells me my password is too short and i need to set a new one); and i've also tried fiddling with the whole automatic login option, to no avail.

I'm not too literate on Mac, as you can plainly see, but i think that i've tried just about every option on every menu in the system.

Any ideas?

Mojo_wire: I do not have the system disk, i misplaced it. Thanks anyway.

Anybody else? Whoever gives me something that will work gets the 10 points.

I've changed mine back and forth several times using the automatic login. No problems. At one point, I've gone without a password, and that worked fine, too, although I wouldn't recommend it.

To reset the administrator password using the Mac OS X disc:

Insert the Mac OS X Install disc and restart the computer.
When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the spinning gear.
When the Installer appears, choose Utilities > Reset Password.
Follow the onscreen instructions to change the password.
Quit the Installer and restart your computer while holding down the mouse button to eject the disc.
