I have a new cpu that I bought a great discount--however it only has Windows XP home edition on it. The salesmen advised me it does not have MSWord or MS Office on it. I have my old Microsoft Office XP Small Business CDs which came with the old computer bundle. What I want to know is: Can I just download the Word and/or Office programs from the CD; if that will even work because of the new CPU's preprogrammed XP home; and/or can I or should I just put everything on the old CD onto the new one, and how exactly do I do any and all of this?

You may be able to install just Word from your old CDs, however, if they were OEM versions that came bundled with your old computer, you may not be able to activate the product. Microsoft's OEM license is pretty strict, and you aren't supposed to install it on any computer other than the one you bought it with.

If, however, it's a retail version, all you have to do is select custom install and select just the MS Word components.

You can install old Microsoft Office on it. Stick the first Microsoft Office CD in the drive, and sooner or later it will give you the choice to automatically install everything or do a "custom install". Do the custom install, but take all the defaults until you get to the part where it lets you pick which programs to install, The default will be "all", just select the ones you want.

Yes no problem, you can install all or just part of the Office package. It will work with Home or Pro versions of XP. When you insert the CD just go to the custom install part and select what you want to install and deselect those parts you wont use. Good luck!

I would say attempt to download the programs from the CD, it sounds like it should work.

Err, so you have a new computer.....with XP Home.
Yes you can put Word on it, if you still have the serial number.
C.P.U. is the brain of your computer, and nothing is stored on it, it stands for Central Processing Unit.

Yes, you can and it will work.
You can either install the entire office suite or just install the programs you need.
