i have a similar background to Syn.
the bible has some interesting points and messages. Taking it literally and as the absolute truth is simply ludicrous. If whomever "he" is is gonna reveal some truth somewhere, where is it?
The question should be asked: why do christians take the bible out of context to suit their goals? WHya re so many things done in "gods" name....

What!?
Ok, now the Bible is Truth, you cannot pick ans choose to suit your ideology....
The Bible is a story, old covenant and new covenant... life with God before Jesus, and life with God during, and after Jesus... the old way of things has passed and the new has come....
THe thing is when you try to understand the Bible, you don't go looking for scriptures that agree with your thinking, this may result in taking scripture out of context and twisting it into your own words....
The Old testament tells of the fall of man into sin, the law and obedience to the law of rightiousness, sacrifice for sins, and so forth...
The New testament tells of Jesus as the last sacrifice for sins, finding salvation, obeying the 10 commandments and obeying Christ teachings...
Since Jesus paid the price for all mens sins, they no longer have to sacrifice for thier sins.... but to go and live rightious lives and be saved by Him
Christianity in fact is part 2 of the Jewish faith, Jesus was Jewish, He is the Messiah... the Old testament holds the professies that Jesus fufilled in order to be the Messiah
The Old Testament holds truth, but you must look at it as in the past and as the old way, Jesus is the new way...
The whole Bible is God's word... you can know it all but, the Holy Spirit that dwells in true Christians helps them really understand the bible when proffessors cannot fully grasp it...

There is no way that I, as a Christian can not disagree with what is written. It is God's word. As for liking, I love every word in the Bible. Every word from the first word in Genesis to the last word in Revelations, which is Amen, so be it.

"Lean not on your own understanding." God's way is not our own, and we don't have all the answers. And God has been around way longer than any of us, so I think He's got it figured out when it comes to knowing what's what. As for liking what it has to say, bite the bullet and suck it up. We won't always like certain things, but that's part of our growth. We know that God is right, so why go our own way? Besides, if He never made us uncomfortable, how could we grow?

Well let's see....I've been walking with God now for over 20 years, and I guess when I see something that I don't agree with in the Scriptures I figure I'm the one that's wrong. God has shown Himself to be wise, fair, patient, loving, kind, and alot smarter than me, so I trust Him to know what the better way is. This has come after many years with Him.
He says "My thoughts are higher than your thoughts, my ways are higher than your ways" and He has shown me this thru the years, so I trust Him that he is the one that is right, if theres any question.

I am wiccan but I come from a heavily christian family and before I converted to wicca I disagreed in whole with what it had to say. Though I admit some of it had its points, other parts of the bible are senseless.

I have not read the whole Bible yet... and there is much of it that I do not understand... and portions of it that I am SURE others are probably misinterpreting... but it is not for me to condemn... and I have enough to do with my own education to worry too much about people that are seemingly rude or sarcastic on purpose.

Parts of the Bible are hypocritical and self-damning. For example, Peter approaches Jesus and asks, "'Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?' Jesus answered, 'I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times (or seventy times seven).'" (Matthew 18:21-22)
And yet, funnily enough, the all-merciful God has not seen fit to forgive human kind for Adam and Eve's "sin" of eating the forbidden fruit of knowledge. Original sin has lasted for millennia, and through no fault of mankind today.

I don't think about it like that...I consider it allegorical or working on levels I just don't get...not that I "disagree"
that's like "disagreeing" with Aesop...
