No, but it helps to be highly specialized and educated. For the employment green card, there are visas for professors and researchers, those who hold Master's degrees, and other highly qualified professional workers.
It helps to know English, but we must also remember that America is one of the few countries that is a monolingual nation. Most other countries recognize two to three languages as official or national languages. People complain about immigrants not speaking English, because we are so ignorant in our opinions that English is the ultimate tool. I truly think it's time for Americans to realize that we're not that special, and that multilingualism is a great tool.

Of course not! Do you remember the last government form you read that was written in only English? Cause I sure can't. I don't mind people coming here for a better life as long as they do it legally. That is an option but one that is not taken because the fact is illegals come here to make money to send back home without paying taxes, to take free services from legal Americans who are scraping every last bit of funds together to live in the most primitive of ways in most cases, only to find out that due to the influx of down and out illegals we have to pay even more for the most basic of services!

I do not know but as an American citizen I would say yes....because we want you to speak English. If I was to go to a foreign country I would be expected to know the language.....just common courtesy
