First off, don't be discouraged because you are a novice, jump into cooking with both feet, you'll be suprised at your abilities. Simple and tasty....one of my favorite recipes:
Sweet and Spicy Sweet Potatos
take 2 medium sized sweet potatos and peel and cube them (about 1 inch cubes)
1/4 of a cup of vegetable oil
1/2 a cup of brown sugar
chili powder to taste
a dash of cayenne pepper (by dash I mean dash, this stuff packs one hell of a punch and it certainly doesn't take much)
salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon of ground ginger (this is actually better with fresh ginger but for sake of simplicity ground will suffice)
throw your potatos and oil in a container (I generally use a Ziplock bag) and shake, covering the potatos in oil
Throw in all the other ingredients and shake again, ensuring you cover all the potato cubes in spices. Throw it all in a greased baking dish large enough that the potatos are only one layer. Cook on 400 F. for 30-40 minutes, turning potatos every 15 minutes or so. (Don't cook them too long or the potatos will go all mushy) Remove and stir in liquidized mixture at the bottom of the pan before serving. Enjoy!

A quick and easy recipe is baked gemicelli or ziti. All you do is boil the noodles until they are the right tenderness, You put into a glass baking dish the sauce (spaghetti, or you can make your own sauce) then put in the noodles and make sure they are coverd with the sauce. You can add anything you want to this recipe, onions, mushrooms, peppers, pepporoni, anything you like, then top it with cheese, and bake at 350 F. for about 5 min. Be careful it is easy to burn the cheese. Have fun!

Like the boss, only these are called cheese dreams, butter some bread, add pieces of cheese and some bacon on top, put in the broiler about 2 inches from the top burner in the oven. Keep the door of the oven open and keep an eye on them until they start to melt and the bacon sizzles. You could fry the bacon a little before you put it on the bread as the cheese melts real fast.

I love to throw boneless skinless chicken breast in a skillet and cook it for about 10 minutes and then add some Campbells Cream of Mushroom Soup and a little bit of water and some seasoning and cook it on medium low heat until chicken is cooked through. Serve this with mashed potatoes or rice and it is really good.

Try this easy open-face sandwich
Toast a piece of bread, spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on it
add a big thick slice of home grown tomato on it, sprinkled with salt and pepper
add slices of cooked bacon on top of the tomato
cover with slices of velveeta cheese so it covers the whole sandwich
broil in the oven until cheese melts (not too long you will need to watch it carefully so it doesn't catch on fire)
then enjoy one of the best tasting sandwiches you'll ever eat!!!

Tacos. All you have to do is brown ground beef in a pan with a seasoning packet. Get some taco shells and lettuce, tomato, sour cream and salsa and you're there.

If you can grill out, the possibilities are endless. Chicken breasts, shrimp, pork chops, ribs, steak, burgers, sausage...you name it, it's all pretty easy.
Inside, casseroles are probably the easiest type of dish. There are literally hundreds of recipes out there, just google them.
