Try the local medicare office in your town. Also, most hospitals have a MIAP program for financially strapped to help with hospital services. Is he a veteran? The Veterans Administration would be an excellent place to start. Local funeraries also have different programs to help in times like these. Check with any local funeral homes and see about your options. Medicare only pays a small amount on funerals, based on hhis contributions made during his working career. God bless and I wish both of you the best.

There is no money from Medicare to help pay for funeral costs....but most funeral homes have payment plans to help those who don't have a lot of money. And some of the cheaper caskets look as nice as the expensive ones...the cost reduction is usually in the inside lining, what it's made of, etc.

Social Security does give a death benefit, but it's usually only about 300 dollars. Not much when a funeral costs around 3000 dollars!

You might also want to see what YOU can do to help there....asking for donations, etc. But the payment plan is probably the best. And your friend and her father might want to think about cremation....it is less expensive, for the actual cremation as well as storage in a mortuary.

I'm sorry....for her, and for him. Bless all of you......
