Quite a lot actually. Let me summarise this Wikipedia info:

1. Sunni (with 4 subbranches)
2. Shi'a (with 6 subbranches)
3. Sufi (with 6 orders listed but certainly more)
4. Kharijite (2 subbranches)
5. Kalam (4 subbranches)
6-9. Four other sects

+

Seven listed sub-sub-divisions
And six 'break-off' religious movements with historical connections to Islam.

Quite an impressive list all told. Not as much as Christianity, but probably more sects than Christianity had 1400 years into its existence.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prophesied there will be 73 sects of Muslims but only 1 will be on the right path... the one that follows The Qur'an and the Sunnah.

more than one is too many. and they are all backward war-mongering belief systems with no place in modern society. notice how all the sects have names that sound like different types of turd? Sorry, It all just seems so twisted to me. To us here in the west who care little about all this carry-on it just seems like a bunch of poorly educated, superstitious fanatical idiots with no other purpose than to stifle progress and stay in the dark ages.
