hi, i'm watching this japanese movie i downloaded that i thought already has subs.

it DOES but the subs happen to be spanish and is already in the avi-file-mathingy. so i went searching to download the english subs of it and tried to watch the movie with the english subs in my VLC player with vobsub. BUT the english subs do show but it overlaps the spanish subs which is still there, and i just have no way to get rid of the spanish subs permanetly.

what do i do? DD: i don't want to edit it in any ways but just get rid of it.

If the spanish sub is hard-subbed, there is no way you can get rid of it. But if you have latest VLC player installed (version 0.8.5), it have an option to display external subtitle as "Close caption" (Which having black blackground on subtitles). You can set for VLC to display the english subtitle as close caption, so that you can easily read it.

To set VLC to display subtitles as close caption. Do the following: Click on Setting menu - Preferences - Video - Subtitles/OSD - Text renderer - Set "Font Effect" as Background - Click Save. Now try to play avi file with english sub.
