can you insist on more than book value on a wrecked car from your insurance company?

Every insurance company calculates the value of a vehicle differently. Some use "wholesale value" while others use "retail value". Your best chance is to do your research. Look in your local paper, penny saver or similar. Find out how much a vehicle similar to yours is selling in your area. Go to them with that information. Also if you have done any recent maintenance provide them with receipts.
*Remember your car probally isn't worth as much as you think it should be. It's human nature. Be realistic, would someone else pay that $ for your car.

-Also, if you are very attached to your car you can "retain salvage". Take all responsibility for the repairs letting the insurance company off the hook.

I guess it depends on which book they are going by. Go to both car value sites and see which one they are using and argue your point. You can always debate the issue; although it seems hopeless unless your hurt and have a good lawyer, insurance companies only want to scre- over you these days!! You can insist on anything, but it doesn't mean you will get it. Much depends on your policy. If you have added to the value of this car and are able to provide verification of that value, then you might have a good chance. It all depends on you policy and your agent.

i went thru this - i live in n. c. people later (ugh) told me that ,i could ask for a replacement for a car like the one i had. check & see, honey,you get so ripped off , cause i wound up spending 10000.00 more than (different car though) i got - give em heck!
